Instead she pulled an "ambush" knowing he would not be there. He was stuck in executive session. Palin was expecting the board to overturn their decision to shut the plant down. When that vote came in the same, they quickly left the plant, knowing Joe VanTreeck was on his way back to the plant. Phone records will show that they did not have a confirmed appointment from the night before as state by Meg Stapleton. Let's set the record straight. she had hoped to be there to kiss babies and shake hands of the employees so she could say "I saved Your job." That didn't happen and the rest is history.
That is really lame that they made the governor "cool her heels" they must be giving back that $600,louis vuitton pas cher,000 then?
I'd like an audit done. Any place that makes the gov wait like that when she is trying to show her support and keep it alive has secrets. . .
I don't have a lot of money and have still bought MatMaid milk over the years because it was Alaskan (and because I loved the little figure skater on the cartons way back in the '70's and '80's when I was little and my mom bought it!) I am really disappointed.
I took a dispatch from the Teamsters 959 hiring hall in 1989 to work at Mat Maid as a dayhelper. I spent the next 15 years employed there, working alongside some of the most interesting people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. I shared good and bad times with all of my fellow employees at "The Maid", made lots of true friends along the way, saw people come and saw some go. I watched our families as we grew, laughed at our parties, cried at our funerals, helped out where I could, and loved the friendship that came from everyone at Mat Maid. I sometimes had the pleasure to work right alongside Joe Van Treeck and his talented Management team, and always felt like part of the "family". For my own family reasons I had to leave Alaska, but a piece of me has never left, and i'ts this piece that feels so very sad to hear of "The Maid's" ending. I know the endless amounts of hard work that Mr Van Treeck and his Managers and Staff put in to keep the dairy's doors open (without any State funding at all by the way), for as long as they have been, even through all the economic and political ups and downs. Joe, you kept food on our tables and smiles on our faces. My hat is off to you. Thank you from my family for all your hard years. Stephen W Thackray
I come from a LARGE dairy farm operation in the lower 48 so I understand how this kind of things work, and I would be interested to see if there may have been any buyer's for Mat Maid from larger lower 48 milk producers.
I was borned and raised in Alaska and am really sad to see Mat Maid go. It is the only milk I buy because they have a 1% fortified with vit. D that tastes much better than other brand's 1%. I wish they could have delayed closing it until the other businesses got online and might have been able to start producing milk and taken over MatMaid's operation. I don't mind paying more for a really good product and often pick MatMaid over the Lower48 brands (yes, I know they use Lower48 milk to supplement supplies up here, it's how they produce their products that make them superior in quality and taste). I will hate like heck to not have a choice in the dairy aisle anymore.
Dennis862 just to advise you that Mat Maid did NOT receive the $600,000. They refused it, and decided it best to not incur anymore risk for the owner the State of Alaska. This white elephant as you call it was successful and profitable until local supermarkets lowballed milk at artificially low prices that make it impossible for Alaskans to compete. Also another correction: Mat Maid NEVER received a subsidy from the State nor any other dime in over 20 years of operation since the bankruptcy. It operated off its own cashflow. Facts are more important to understanding aren't they? Greg Galik
