Goodman says attending school and living in New York taught him to be independent and given him confidence. Learning the subway system, struggling to get Broadway tickets at a discount and dealing with the crowds and diverse population while simultaneously managing his coursework has been a challenge he is proud to have met. Night in Manhattan means Goodman is off to the theater. His student discount allows him to see one to two shows every week, and after every show he takes his poster and playbill to have the entire cast sign it.
"I think that living in Naples and attending the Community School gave me a solid base from which to grow in New York City, and I have a family that is incredibly supportive and contacts in theater and music here that give me the courage to do all that I do," said Goodman. About Naples, Goodman says, "It is home. It's where I grew up and my family and friends are here."
"I consider myself mostly retired but I still perform in the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) orchestra at the Metropolitan Opera House each spring," said Eckler. "It doesn't hurt that in New York City I can continue to earn some income to support our Florida retirement, and Naples offers a pleasant alternative to our former hectic 'big city' lives."
In Florida, Eckler performs voluntarily with the Naples and Bonita Springs concert bands, which he says provides a different kind of musical satisfaction.
